Don’t give in to Aging

Meriance Anti-aging skincare kit with Collagen

Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art!

Do you ever wish that you could go back to your 20 year old self and tell them something that you have learned?  I am constantly finding things that I wish my 20 year old self knew, so that I wouldn’t be scrambling to fix things I would have taken care of already.

For example, I am sure you know about muscle memory, and how when you do something often enough and well enough, your body just remembers what to do and goes back to doing it.  It’s kind of like riding a bike – something our minds and muscles don’t forget.

One thing I have been thinking about recently is how I am determined to grow old at MY pace.  I don’t want to be that little old Grandma sitting in a rocking chair with my grey hair in a bun.  Not that there is anything wrong with being that Grandma I just don’t think it would suit me.

My actual Grandma didn’t pass away until she was almost 97 and right up until the end she was fabulous.  I once asked her what her secret was and she told me that taking care of herself, especially her skin had always been vital for her.  She went clothes shopping right up until the end, she cared about how she looked, not because she was vain, but because it was important for her to feel good.  I realized that I am the exact same way.  I dress up and take care of myself because of ME and how it makes ME feel!

Beauty is how YOU feel about YOU – it becomes visible on the outside by how you feel on the inside – shop here

I am always searching for new products and ideas to help me age gracefully.  I recently had the pleasure to try out some new collagen anti-aging skin products…and even after only using them for a week I can feel a difference.  As you know one of the things that aging does to your skin is to diminish its elasticity and plumpness.  Immediately when I started using this Meriance line, I could feel the skin on my face tightening and it just felt a lot softer.  I don’t know about you, but I am pretty much willing to try any product at least once to find out if it works for my skin, especially if it means that I can delay or redirect my aging process.  It kind of drives me crazy that my husband, Brandon, just seems to get better looking with age, and I feel like I notice a new wrinkle every single day.

While I don’t want prevent aging completely, I certainly do want to delay it as long as possible.  If you haven’t heard of Meriance, it is a Canadian company, I would recommend checking them out.  You can click this link to do some research or try some products for yourself.

I am using the Full Anti-aging skincare kit, and right now they are offering $100 off the total cost of the kit if you use the code STYLEQUEENIE100 at the checkout.  I never recommend something unless I feel like it works, I like it for myself and I believe it is a good value, and this kit, well it answers all three of those questions.  Just click here to shop this kit or one of the others they have to offer

Aging Gracefully

“Aging is not lost youth, but a new stage of opportunity and strength!”

I know I am not the only one that wishes I would have been more proactive in planning for the future when it comes to taking care of myself.  Working out was more about how I looked rather than how healthy it was making my body, skincare was more about “if I had time” rather than routine, I took for granted my muscle tone, being able to eat a lot of what I wanted and the whole digestive thing, you know where eating an abundance of fried foods wasn’t an issue (OK, so I admit I have a thing for good old fashioned English chips).

As I am skating very close to turning 50 I now pay way more attention to what I see when I look in the mirror, I workout for health as well as looking good, my food choices are a conscious thing and finding products to reverse skin damage or hair damage are a must.

Since I have been blogging I have been fortunate to try out new products and I definitely pay attention to how I look more.  I don’t think aging is a bad thing, in fact, I love who I am today, how I look and what I have accomplished, but I have realized that I want age at my pace, take back a little control and enjoy it rather than fight it.

With all of this being said, I don’t think there is anything wrong with doing things that slow down the aging process, whether permanent or more temporary, I don’t think anyone should be ashamed of how their body ages, because just like everything else in this life, how our body reacts to climate and different environments is going to be different.  I live in a very dry climate, and when I moved here from England it was a huge adjustment.  My skin felt shriveled and I hated how it felt, so I took action and completely changed how I took care of it.  We are all unique and so are our bodies and how they will age.  We can’t control everything but we can certainly slow it down and in some cases reverse it.

Obviously as you look in the mirror your face is the first thing you will notice, and that is where I have spent most of my time taking care of.  The second place I notice are my hands…if you think about it, your hands are doing dishes, washed after going to the bathroom, etc., and both of these things along with other factors really dry out our skin and cause the hands to age.  If I really want to have an idea of how old someone is the first thing I look at are their hands.  It’s so hard to hide aging hands, but the good news is that I have found a company that has some products manufactured specifically to work on your hands.

I started using Daily Dual Repair from Hand MD, and I absolutely love it. It’s a 2-step hand serum & moisturizer that helps smooth fine lines and wrinkles on your hands, and make them really soft. I’ve got to say I’m a big fan so far and I think you will be too, so go check them out! Stay tuned for my results!
Even better news, they’re actually having a 15% off flash sale on right now, so click here to take advantage before it ends.
Aging is not something to be afraid or ashamed of, especially if you can make it on your terms.  I know that’s what I’m going to do!

Tips on Looking after Your Skin in Cold Weather

“Always make time for things that make you feel happy to be alive!”

When it gets colder outside, you might feel like your skin is getting drier by the minute, and your face looks dull and lifeless. Cold weather affects every skin type differently, but we all need to make changes when winter starts knocking to maintain our youthful appearance. No matter what your age is, you have to have a winter skin care routine to reduce the damage caused by harsh weather. Read some tips on how below…

Wash Your Face with Lukewarm Water

Instead of using hot water, switch to lukewarm or medium cold, so you energize the skin cells. Take a shower in the morning alternating warm and cold water, to start the circulation of the blood around the skin cells. Hot showers are harmful in the winter, as they dry your skin faster.

Moisturize More

In the winter, you will need to give your skin some extra care. You might be sitting in the office all day, jump in the car, blow the hot air in your face, and get out in the cold, humid air straight after. You need to feed the lost vitamins and minerals in your body regularly to maintain your youthful appearance for longer. Take a small tub with you in your handbag and use it whenever you feel like your skin is getting dry. Pay extra attention to your lips and take a vaseline based lip balm with you.

Use Your Night Cream

Even if you have neglected to use your night moisturizer in the summer, you should get it out and use it every night. Give your skin a chance to regenerate at night. Make sure that you wash off the excess in the morning, and avoid the oil clogging up your pores.

Go to the Sauna

The best way of maintaining the flexibility of your skin is to visit the sauna once or twice in the winter. You can have a cold shower or a dip in a cold tub after you finish the steam treatment, and restore the cells easily, get rid of dull dead skin cells, and release the toxins at the same time.

Humidify Your Home

Dry air is very bad for your skin, and the change in humidity levels between your home and the outside can cause damage. To reduce the risks, you can install a humidifier in your home, or install one on your heater, and maintain an equal level of humidity and temperature, protecting your skin.

Don’t Over-exfoliate

You need to look after the upper protective layer of your skin. Check out tips on how to exfoliate correctly to avoid damaging your skin. Don’t use your facial scrub more than once a week in the winter, and make sure you apply plenty of moisturizer after you are done.

Looking after your skin in the winter should be all about protecting and eliminating toxins. Avoid hot baths, visit the sauna, and use plenty of moisturizer during the day and night. Create a winter skin care routine that works for you and stick to it.

I don’t know about you, but I’ll definitely take any help I can get to keep looking younger for longer. It’s easy to start off with good intentions and let your routines slip as time goes on, but the only way to improve the appearance of your skin is to maintain a regular routine…Start off this week as you mean to go on – after all, you’re only hurting yourself if you don’t!

“Aging is a fact of life.  Looking your age is not!”

A little over 3 months ago I started using some amazing skin care products.  I have to admit, I have never been really great about my skincare regimen, so when I was given the opportunity I chose to commit myself to 3 months so I could really see how these products work.  Although I have never had a rigid routine, I have used a lot of products for skincare, some of which were really expensive, and none of which have left my skin feeling as great as it does now.

With that being said, I wanted to pass along my excitement about using these products.  They have made my skin feel really soft – in fact one of my boys told me the other day that “my skin was too soft”…not sure how that’s possible, but I guess it happened to me:)  I have also noticed that using these products has actually faded some sun spots that I had on my face.

I don’t consider myself an expert, so I have someone you can contact about getting yourself set up with some of these great products…

All you need to do is contact Kristen Clements on either Facebook (Kristen Clements – Rodan + Fields) or Instagram (@knclements2). –  We are also doing a little giveaway for some great REDFINE Eye Cloths along with REDEFINE Multi-function Eye Cream ($90 Value).  The Rodan + Fields Multi-Function Eye Cream is a best seller that is packed with peptides to combat crow’s feet, puffiness and dark circles.  This little tub will last for months and work wonders…Pair it with the makeup removing Redfine Eye Cloths for major anti-aging results!
