Sweater Weather

“Don’t miss out on something that could be great just because it could also be difficult!”

Wherever you live, there is probably going to be more of a chance to wear sweaters or layers in the Fall, so how do you find the ones that are the most flattering and fun for you to wear?  Since in Utah we haven’t had the time to really get into this trend yet (it’s definitely coming just not here yet), so here are some throwbacks to some of my favorites…

I have always loved Fall more than Winter, mainly because Winter is just a little too cold for me, and in Fall I get the chance to layer and get really creative with my outfits while at the same time not freezing to death 😉

I am a very visual person, so colors and patterns really appeal to me, but I am also tactile, which means that I really care about how something feels.  There’s nothing worse than finding a cool sweater and it itching you all day because it’s not soft.  My youngest is definitely like this – we have bought him clothes over the years and if he doesn’t like how it feels, he will NEVER wear it, and I don’t blame him.  Honestly the only time I ever sacrifice comfort for style is with my shoes – LOL!

So, to answer my first question, here are some great ideas for wearing layers and sweaters for the Fall and Winter months:

Wear a large oversized sweater with some skinny pants.  Wearing oversized pieces means they can tend to make you look larger than you are, but when you wear slimming or skinny pants or a skirt you can offset that appearance.

Wear a fitted turtle neck with a cute casual skirt and pumps or boots.  As the weather gets colder adding a pair of funky tights is a great way to add that extra pop to the outfit as well.

Wear a fitted sweater with an accent belt, and then add another layer of a long cardigan for a unique take on sweater weather attire.  The ruffle skirt and boots are the perfect compliment too!

Wear a chunky cardigan with some booties.  Because I paired this cardigan with the fitted skirt, just like the oversized sweater, it prevents the perception of being larger than you are!~

Embracing each season can be as easy as finding a style that makes you feel at home in that season.  The key is not to let the weather (the thing you can’t control) decide how you feel about what you wear and how you feel.  It can be all too tempting to wear comfy, warm, cozy things in the Fall and Winter, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still look amazing.  Sweats can be cute – especially the leopard print or camo ones I have seen recently.  Enjoy experimenting with styles that could work for you, and don’t be afraid to try something a little funkier than usual.  Add a scarf here or there, wear a hat, layer like crazy and have fun!

Have a great day 🙂

Unleash Your Inner Passion

“Finding your passion isn’t just about careers or money, it’s about finding your authentic self.  The one you’ve buried beneath other people’s needs!”

We are all at different stages of our lives, and some things that are immensely important for you may not be high on my list, so there are some things that we are going to focus our energy on, and those are going to be different depending on what stage of life we are in.

I remember when my kids were younger, it took most of what I had to get up and get them ready in the morning, go to a full time job in sales where I needed to push myself to create a living, come home and make dinner and take a bath…there was very little time for anything else.  It doesn’t mean that I wasn’t passionate about doing anything else, it just means there is only so much energy available and it was being expended fulfilling necessary things.  I have always been a very strongly motivated person, and never needed anyone to tell me how much effort I needed to put into anything, because I have to admit, I pretty much don’t work on anything but full speed.

It is certainly easier to unleash your inner passion when you have a little less on your plate, but there is also a way to create space even when you have a full to-do list already.  I have found over the years, that whatever I focus on, that is where I am going to see the most success.  It’s easy to prove – if you try cooking dinner while you are in the midst of completing another task, there is NO focus and chances are you are going to do both things to a mediocre level. Whereas, if you focus 100% on making dinner, chances are you are going to do a better job (unless of course you can’t cook at all, and that then would require a little more practice 😉 )

Do you have something that really excites you?  Something that you haven’t really given the focus that it deserves but you really want to give it a try?

When I first started this blog I did it because I love style and fashion, and I wanted to help other people see their style potential, and increase their self-confidence, while in the process, focus on something that really excited me.  I don’t profess to know everything about style and fashion, but what I do know is that I am important.  I am important enough to want to create a life where I am not stifling my passion, where I feel good being myself, I am confident, and I love my life.

Along the way I have learned a lot…I have learned what I had no idea I didn’t know!  I learned how to do things I didn’t know were important, I have learned how to be committed to an idea of what I want and follow that passion.  Unleashing your passion could be something as simple as taking up a new hobby, traveling or even just creating an amazing home environment…it all depends on what drives YOU!

If you do have something that you are really passionate about but have been afraid to pursue it, ask yourself this…what is it costing you to give up on your passion?  As you look back on your life will you be happy with all the decisions you made or will you regret not unleashing your passion?  I know the answer for me is that I would be disappointed, and that’s why I chose to let mine out…

What is your passion?  Are you passionate enough about it to let it out?

Layering in Style

“I am slowly peeling off the many layers of me to find myself!”

It’s been really hot in Utah over the past few weeks, so it may not feel like it now, but at some point you are going to need some stylish layering options…

I am highlighting a couple that I used in recent shoots…these are some of my favorites, with the Leather jacket always taking the prize 🙂

What is your “go to” layering piece for cooler evenings, or as you start planning for colder days.  I always have to carry something with me when I fly as well, because for some reason I always manage to sit next to someone that wants the air at 50 degrees as I am sitting there shivering!

I posted a couple of great items that are part of the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, and it included a couple of jackets, but I went in and found a few more that you can check out…shop the links below!

Happy Anniversary Sale Shopping and remember, if you’re not sure that you need it, go shopping and I guarantee you’ll find something  you really do NEED!;)

Long Cardigan

“Failure is necessary in this life, if you cannot fail, then you cannot succeed!”

Looking for a “go to” style outfit, have you tried wearing a simple pair of pants and top and adding a cardigan to add a pop of color and funk!  Today’s outfit shows how to put together an outfit just like that.  Plain Black pants, a plain Black blouse with low-cut booties finished off with a Rust/Red colored cardigan…

The cardigan is a Lularoe and it is comfortable, versatile and definitely funky!  Because it is light-weight it would work for just about any season…

This shoot is one of my favorites, I love how the light captures my hair and even though it was a little chilly on this day I managed to find a way to stay outside long enough to get these amazing pictures.

The great thing about adding something to enhance your outfit like this cardigan is that it can be easily switched out and the whole outfit adapted for different occasions!

Happy Saturday – have a great rest of your weekend 🙂

Earth Tones

“The strongest people are not those who show strength in front of us but those who win battles we know nothing about.”

Here’s another peek at the Casual outfit I put together last week, but I added a cardigan for those days when you are running from store to store, or it’s just not too cold to be without your Winter parka!

Mixing earth tones is something that is really easy to do and you pretty much can’t go wrong.  Sometimes it’s even fun to throw a Red or Orange in there too!

As you can see, this outfit is more about comfort than New York Fashion Week, however, it still has some key points that you can replicate.

  1. Add a little leather to spice up your Casual outfit.
  2. Throw some studs in there (just like on these boots).
  3. Throw on an over-sized cardigan to make it even more comfortable and yet still stylish.
  4. Wear a bright colored lipstick to add a pop of color.
  5. Add a Red, Orange or Maroon scarf or accessories to spice up the look.

As you are out doing your Christmas shopping make sure you wear boots or shoes that are comfortable enough that you won’t be miserable by the time you are done!  I have found that if my feet are hurting then I am miserable and I end up buying random things that I don’t need just so I can hurry and get out of there – which usually ends up meaning I have to take another trip to return what I didn’t need!

Simple Shirt Dress

“Life is tough, my darling, but so are you!”

Today’s Sunday best is a simple shirt dress that I covered with a long open front cardigan.  It wasn’t quite warm enough to head out without an outer layer.  The pumps are really high but I love how heels like this really make your legs seem slimmer and longer.

Shirt dresses are great for Winter as well as summer, because they can turned into so many different outfits.  You can add knee high boots and tights for colder days, pumps like mine with no tights, sandals, and even booties.  It is such a versatile dress, also because it can be worn as a shift dress (with no belt) or belted to accentuate your waist!

If you are looking for an outfit that is simple and great to wear for Holiday parties, on a casual date, for the office or pretty much any occasion, you can find shirt dresses in just about every store right now.

If you click the links below you will see where I bought mine, and get one for yourself.

On this Sunday as we head into Thanksgiving week, I hope you have many things that you are truly thankful for, and that you are looking forward to enjoying spending time with friends and loved ones.

“She realized that she is too pretty to act ugly, and too blessed to be stressed!”

Whether you are experiencing sweater weather yet or not where you live…we all know it’s coming!

The mornings here have been chilly but the afternoons are glorious.  The cardigan in this post is one of my favorites, I actually forgot that I had it (I had packed it away in my Winter closet).  I love a great surprise when I find something I wasn’t expecting to find.

Under the cardigan is a simple, fitted Black dress, so to add a little spice I chose my Wine colored booties.  This outfit is perfect for Work, a Meeting, or just for fun.  It’s simple yet eye-catching, and warm enough for those chilly mornings.  There are so many different choices of cardigans, some of which are more casual and some are more professional looking – here are some links for some similar cardigans that you can check out for yourself…

Get ready for the cold weather before it gets here and go check out the link before for some choices and many others that you can find if you just search Chunky Cardigans!

“Never be so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.”

Now the weekend is here, I wanted to post a little more about this great outfit.  It is perfect for running lots of errands because the booties as really comfortable and only have a low heel.

I don’t know about you but when I have to grocery shop and run lots of errands I want to make sure that I can do lots of walking.  For some reason there always seems to be more errands to run and things to do than I first thought!

This past week absolutely flew by and Halloween was really fun in our neighborhood – we have bus loads of people that bring their kids trick or treating in our neighborhood (must be for the free hotdogs, donuts and hot chocolate).  With that being said I still have too much candy left over…

Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away – stay tuned for some great fashion and home styling tips!

Have a great weekend…
