While it would be wonderful, I realize that shopping every time we have somewhere to go or something to do is not reasonable, which is why sometimes shopping in our closets can be so much fun too! Sometimes I am amazed at the things I find, and it gives me the opportunity to create even more styles that are unique to me!
We are approaching spring pretty quickly here which means that the weather is changing (hopefully), and therefore the clothes we wear will also change. At the beginning of a new season I love to go through my closet, pull out clothes that I had from last year and put together some combinations just using those pieces I already own. I start out by picking out a single piece and finding funky, different combinations that will work with that piece. It’s a great way to recycle what we have from previous years or seasons without looking like we are just wearing the same thing over and over. For example, if I have a top that I have worn with a specific pair of pants or skirt in the past, I try it with jeans or I add something else to make it different (like a scarf or a vest/cardigan).
As I am sorting through my clothes from previous seasons I also like to donate some as well – leaving me room to go and buy a few more pieces that are specific for this year. I don’t ever get rid of everything completely but I have a rule – if I haven’t worn it for at least one season, it’s time for someone else to have the opportunity to wear it 🙂
Since we remodeled our house a few years ago, I have a good sized closet, but that doesn’t stop me from packing away things I know I won’t be able to wear during a season. In fact, one of my most favorite things to do is to pull out my spring/summer clothes that have been packed away and find some gems I had forgotten about. I’m not going to lie, sometimes I have things in my closet that I have absolutely no recollection of (and I have been known to throw bags in there and never wear things)…
With all of that being said, shopping in my closet can actually like just regular shopping. Even if I find things I have worn before, I take the time to fall in love with them again by creating whole new looks! Do you store your seasonal clothes, shoes and bags?
The green velvet pants I am wearing in this post actually have a green loose fitting jacket, but I wanted to mix things up a little for a colder day. The brown belt and leopard shoes add something a little different, and draw their own attention. Adding a different pair of shoes or a simple accessory like a belt is a great way to create a new vibe without having to think too hard. Because winter is drawing to a close here in Utah, even though the weather can’t seem to make up it’s mind, I am cycling through things I know I won’t want to or be able to wear for a while.
Velvet is not typically a fabric for warmer months, so I am making the most of wearing things that are more appropriate for cold days. However, I will admit that my trusted leather jacket in this picture is something I wear in EVERY season, it’s my go to when I am not sure what the weather will be like. When I travel 9 times out of 10 I take it with me (just in case) and I haven’t regretted it once!
