I don’t know about you but I have always imagined my life being full of adventure, living it to the fullest, not sweating the small stuff…but most importantly – not regretting the things I DIDN’T do!!
For those of you that know me by now, you will know that I am a sports LOVER, so let me emphasize this with a sports analogy…I can actually picture myself as I get older, getting ready for the big baseball game that is the end, wearing all the right gear. I get up to bat, I swing and hit a deep ball into right field giving me a double. My team mate (who is actually one of my boys) hits a double too, but it’s a little shallower, meaning that I have to SLIDE into home to be safe. Now THAT’S how I want to arrive at death…having the time of my life right up the point where I have no choice but to slide into home….
For those of you who are not baseball fans…I apologize, it’s just the most descriptive picture I could create and it made me smile 😉
Interestingly enough that is how I feel about style and looking my best too. The older I get the more I realize that I dress for myself, because it’s what makes me feel good. I wear things that perhaps some people may think a woman of my age shouldn’t…but guess what – I DON’T CARE! Whenever I walk out of my house, I know that I feel good because I love myself and I love how I look.
What do you see when you look in the mirror? Do you focus on the things you don’t like or do you look for the things you do?
I must admit there is something about aging that is really teaching me how to surrender and dig deep into myself to find the things that I really do love about myself. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I don’t love how I look…but what I am saying is there are sometimes when I am looking in the mirror in my car (you know, the one that’s really close to your face), the sunlight hits just right, I could totally focus on all the wrinkles I have, the fact that I have sun damage etc…and I may do that briefly but what I do then is choose to change my thoughts and focus on the things I love about myself.
So as I choose my outfits or go shopping, I am always looking for things that announce ME, that are flattering and that I know I will feel good in. Take this outfit I am wearing here – this faux leather skirt is a current favorite of mine – I have a lot of leather and faux leather, but I loved this pale grey/white because it’s a little different. I was excited to pull out my blue satin knee high’s because it was actually freezing, and I added a denim shirt. Still feminine, but also my own brand of unique.
Do you get excited by creating your own looks or do you not feel confident enough to do that? Confidence is a funny thing, when you only have a little of it, the more you step out of your comfort zone, the more you get in return…CRAZY!
Worth a try?
