Firstly, let me clear up any misconceptions that simple has to mean ordinary. Today’s business outfit, while using simple black and white colors, is definitely not ordinary. The cut of the blouse is just a little different, and the shoes with the gold studs and ankle straps draw attention…
I also added a few elements of Turquoise – earrings and a bracelet that matches well with my gold and antique gold bangles. The bag is also something that is simple yet different.
I have talked in previous posts about stepping outside of your comfort zone with colors, patterns and styles…however, if you have tried doing that and you still feel that it isn’t something you can do, that’s ok. Truly the ultimate goal is for you to find your own unique style. Sometimes, using colors you are comfortable with (like staples such as black, white or grey) is ok because what you can do is choose styles that are not just traditional and stand out a little, just like I did with this white blouse and handbag/purse. Stepping outside of your comfort zone is going to be much different than it is for me – but that doesn’t mean that it’s wrong.
I have found that a great place to shop for business clothes, that is not only affordable but they still have some great pieces, is JC Penney. I was shocked the first time I went there. I have found some great suits, skirts and blouses there, and they are not all your traditional button-up shirt or plain pants or skirts. Dressing and looking classy doesn’t have to cost a fortune, in fact, I always find it a challenge to buy clothes that are not priced at full price.
