There are certain times of year when styles just seem to make more sense. Shirt dresses are one of those comfortable, easy and versatile pieces that seem to work well in the Fall. They are versatile because you can wear them loose, with a belt, with booties, pumps, boots, or even with some flat casual sneakers.
I paired my Wine colored, check dress with a Brown belt and Brown booties. It was a more casual looking style, yet for Fall, it worked perfectly. Fall is here, so get ready for more layers, warmer clothes, and more importantly, the opportunity to wear things that you have recently purchased for this time of year, or pull out some old favorites that will seem like they are new anyway because you haven’t worn them for a while!
If you do decide to wear a shirt dress with a belt, make sure that the dress is long enough so that when you cinch in the waist, it doesn’t make the length too short – or add some thicker tights and long boots. Wearing a belt with a shirt dress is a great way to make sure that you are not looking frumpy, however, if it’s not done right, it can make the dress look like a “Sack of potatoes” and completely undo what you are trying to accomplish. The belt I am wearing is worn as a contrasting color, to match the booties, and tie in the whole outfit.
Checkered patterns are also another thing that work really well for the Fall, and you can find plenty of these kinds of dresses and shirts in most stores…I have seen them at Old Navy, Nordstrom, TJ Maxx, H&M, Macy’s and many, many more!
