“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.”
I know it seems simple, but I have seen many people that have put together patterns, colors and fabrics that look just not quite right…
I wanted to show an example of putting together different colors, without clashing.
Today’s outfit shows how to wear a great Rust color, along with Cream, Khaki and Black. The way this works is because the Rust and Khaki are both earth colors – and cream and black are universal, so they pretty much go with anything.
Here are some simple things to bear in mind when contrasting:
-
Don’t put too much of a specialty fabric together – for example, if you are wearing satin or velvet, only have one piece of that same fabric, otherwise it just looks like too much!
-
Know your colors – as you are just getting comfortable with color coordinating and contrasting, it is probably a good idea to stick with wearing warm colors with warm colors or cool colors with cool colors – such as red and brown which are both warmer colors.
-
Neutral colors such as white, black and grey are also important in coordinating – like I mentioned earlier, neutrals work with almost all colors.
-
Neutrals do not work with every color – Black does not look great with Navy Blue and White and Cream are definitely a faux pas.
-
If you are not completely comfortable with creating outfits with multiple colors, it is probably a good idea to avoid pairing complimentary colors (such as orange and blue) – at least until you become a little more confident.
