“You can’t take care of others if you can’t take care of yourself.”
I didn’t realize until last night how stressed and overwhelmed I had been. Following the holidays, getting kids back to school, going back to work, and just generally starting a new year, I was not feeling calm to say the least.
Imagine my surprise when my husband told me that I needed to set aside a night because I was going to the Kura Door in Salt Lake City. This amazing man of mine had booked me a massage and a facial – wow!
I can definitely say that today I feel like a completely different person. I came to the realization that it is impossible to do everything that is necessary to run a household, work full time, and take care of your family without feeling stressed. I am slowly figuring out that being stressed, overwhlemed and vulnerable doesn’t mean that you are weak, but rather that you are human.
Taking time for yourself to help alleviate the stresses of every day life is vital, whether you are doing something like I did here, or working out, shopping, or even just taking a bath and reading a good book, all these things will help you feel calm on the inside and that will carry over into everything that you do. Much as I hate to admit it, when I am not calm in my house, the whole household seems to be crazy and out of control!
Being a strong woman means that you can admit that sometimes you need help and that’s ok!
