I have talked in previous posts about how great “shift” dresses can work for just about any body type. I was excited to wear the one in this post – I haven’t worn it for a long time because the fabric is a little thicker and it will work better in the Fall/Winter! I had fun at this shoot, especially for these pictures because it allowed me to show how to wear this style of dress, as well as how to pair it with different colors, and textures.
I kept the outfit simple because the dress is Black and White, so the shoes and purse in Grey are a great compliment. You could spice it up a little by adding a pop of a bright color as well and that would be just as effective. The purse is an ostrich skin tote, and the patent leather shoes add yet another texture.
This type of dress also looks amazing with long boots, tights, booties and I love the look of adding a long cardigan – I prefer mine to be the same length as the dress or longer, and I usually pick a contrasting color. When I am layering I try to make sure that whatever I am wearing OVER my outfit, matches the outfit. For example, if I am wearing a Red dress, I will wear a Black, White or even Grey coat or cardigan so as not to take away from the dress, but rather compliment it. I think that layering your outfit is just as important as the outfit itself.
Sometimes, being classic and simple is what you need more than anything to create an air of sophistication. I know I have said this before, but I am not looking forward to the cooler weather that is coming, except for the fact that I will be able to wear my Fall/Winter wardrobe!
I know it’s just a photo shoot, but you can see from my face and the way I am walking that I feel good about myself and what I am wearing. It can’t be said enough that feeling good about how you look is what starts the chain reaction of others thinking the same thing about you…
