“Joy is a decision, a really brave one about how you are going to respond to life.”

As I was getting ready this morning and put on this great high-waist skirt I started thinking about the benefits of skirts that are cut like this one.  As you can see, it is not only a high waist but also has gathering around the hips and middle, which translated to me being able to eat a healthy sized lunch without having to worry about my stomach bulging afterwards 🙂

I have always been a fan of a statement skirt – whether that is a high-waist skirt like this one, a pleated skirt or even one that has really bold patterns, I just love wearing something that draws attention to itself.  This skirt is one that I have had for a while, but I wanted to share it because of the ideas that it can bring.  The point is, you can recreate the look by either buying one of your own, or by using one you already have.  The key with a high-waist skirt is that you want to wear a top, blouse or sweater that is fitted.  This way you can tuck in your top and really highlight the skirt and accentuate your waist.

I paired mine with a great lightweight sweater that has a neck tie that is part of it, along with some great Grey ankle strap shoes.  The newer styles have block heels like these, and the good thing about these block heels is that they are really comfortable and you feel a lot more secure because you don’t wobble around like you do in stiletto heels.  When new trends come in, I definitely like to incorporate some of them into my wardrobe, but I certainly won’t be replacing all of my shoes with this style because I still love the femininity of stiletto pumps!

I kept the accessories simple and just work a cute Turquoise cuff bracelet that I bought earlier this year in a boutique in LA.  There are so many stores that sell cuff style bracelets – find a similar one here
