Make sure you Glow!

“If you want to give light to others, you have to glow yourself!”

What do you do in your life to make sure that you glow?  Are you a believer in the fact that how you treat your body manifests itself?

Today I am focusing on the power of positive energy and how that can truly affect every aspect of your life.  Last night I had a conversation with one of my boys about schoolwork (I don’t know if you’ve had one of those conversations before).  It took me back to the days when I sat down struggling trying to figure out math and how that would be relevant in my life and understand the logic behind each problem. As I sat there speaking with him I realized that the schoolwork he was focusing on was providing him great grades and the assignments and homework that he was neglecting to do, was causing him problems. I asked him why he was not paying attention to his math and he said that it was because he found reading and Language Arts easier so that is what he chose to focus on. Makes sense? I know I certainly sometimes choose the easy things before the hard things and then sometimes things fall by the wayside.

The result of this conversation was that we talked about him not saying “he wasn’t good at math” but rather that he was good at math. Now, the logic behind our conversation was that because he was telling himself that he was good at something he was in fact good at that thing, so the easiest way to change the fact that he was struggling with his math was to tell himself that he was good at it.

I truly believe that physics makes up a lot of what happens in our lives – we say we are a healthy person and we are in fact that person. This can be true about anything we want to have manifest in our lives…One thing to be careful of is that you will still require action, but definitely the power of your mind and the energy that it brings when you focus on something is a real power.

That is why I am posting today about “glowing”…as you can see from this post I am drinking a juice from a local natural juice bar, and this is just a start to how you can make yourself healthy. With the choices we have out there about what to eat and how to live our lives, if we make the small good choices (like this juice), which are actually rather good, then the bigger choices become easier.

I believe that as you come be more healthy and happy, that shows in your confidence and demeanor. If you take just a pause before you make a choice about anything in life (eating, exercising, dressing nicely, etc.) then very often you make a different choice than in if you rush into it or try to talk yourself out of or into it. I am certainly not the most healthy person out there, but I notice when I make good health choices it affects my energy level, my ability to problem solve and my motivation…who couldn’t use a little more of those things?

Stay Healthy my friends 🙂

Leather Capris

“If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be!”

Today’s post is a full look of the outfit where I was wearing the booties I posted yesterday.  Leather and faux leather has always been a love of mine, especially since there are so many different styles and ways to wear it now.  The capri pants that I am wearing in these pictures were some that I found recently at Zara and they were so unique that I had to have them.

I have talked about how much I love to find unique styles, because I like to stand out as being different and if you know me, you know that I am definitely a unique person.  I like things a certain way and I like to be different – especially when it comes to my style.  Every one of us IS unique, the difference is that I like to show that I am unique.  We should all be proud of who we are and show people how amazing we are, and sometimes we can do that by being confident enough to show others who we are.  I believe that confidence comes from knowing who you really are, and not being afraid to let others see that.

You may ask yourself what this has to do with wearing leather pants, well…here’s my take:  I wear things that make ME feel good, express how I feel and allow me to walk and talk with absolute confidence.  I like who I am, I feel good about what I have accomplished in my life, and I am proud to be the wife, mother and friend that I am.  Because I feel all these things, it allows me to express myself in my style and not worry about whether or not someone else will approve.  It definitely feels good to receive compliments, but it is not required for me to feel great.  I have noticed that there are some people that no matter what, don’t like to pay compliments, or only do it because they feel like they should.  I have learned to notice who those people are, sometimes that type of reaction comes because they don’t feel great about how they look or they are not confident enough in themselves to pay others compliments.  What I like to do is pay them a compliment just to make them feel good – because no matter who you are, even if you are supremely confident in yourself, it always feels great to hear some positive words from another person.

Back to the outfit, I have already mentioned the pants…so, the T-shirt was from Cotton On and I loved it because it had a collar which made it stand out (find similar below).  I added a velvet jacket I have had for a while (from H&M) and of course the amazing booties from Urban Og finish off the whole look.

Spring is here!

“Life is 10% of what happens to us and 90% of how we react to it!”

We have been having the most amazing spring weather here in Utah, so I am enjoying a little healthy juice and sitting at a side walk table. I don’t know about you but when the weather is warm enough for me to sit outside without a jacket, I am going to take every opportunity possible to do that!

The booties and Green dress combo are still a favorite of mine, and these are just a few more pictures from the shoot where I highlighted these. I think if you find an outfit combo that really works for you, don’t feel bad about wearing it regularly. I like to adapt all my outfits slightly when I wear them, or if I REALLY like an outfit, I do wear it the same way, but I wait at least a few weeks to do that! I always figure that a good rule of thumb is if you can’t remember exactly when you wore it last, you are probably good to wear it again 🙂

Spring is one of my favorite seasons because I feel hope and a renewed energy. Suddenly I am in the mood to eat more salads, exercise and just generally be more active. Not that I was lazy during the colder months, but it’s almost as though I am aware that at some point I am going to be wearing a bathing suit so I had better be ready – Haha!

Look forward to some new posts with me enjoying being outside and wearing short sleeves – yay! During the winter I try and forget that I have a whole other closet that includes amazing clothes, but that if I see them I feel very sad. So now I have the opportunity to start pulling out those clothes and start wearing sandals again. I can’t wait!

Casual Crossover

“You can cut all the flowers but you cannot stop spring from coming!”

Today’s post is a throwback to a recent shoot where I wore an outfit that is a crossover from dressy to casual…

I love to find pieces that can be adapted because they are versatile.  The disco pants are great to dress up or down!  But the real reason I am posting this outfit again is because I wanted to highlight these amazing booties.  They are perfect for spring because they have an open back, and they are just the right height so that they work with a casual or more formal look…

I think it’s important to have shoes or boots that can be worn with lots of different outfits – it just gives you more opportunity to wear them!  These booties are not too high and have a block heel which makes them more comfortable for wearing long periods of time.  I don’t know about you but I need these types of shoes because at the weekends when I am running errands I don’t want my feet to be hurting – especially if I have one of those days where I don’t want to wear my work out clothes all day 😉

Leather on Sunday?

“Everything that is made beautiful, lovely and fair is made for the eye of one who see’s it!”

I have never been much of a rule follower – especially when I don’t like the rule!  Anyone who knows me knows that I like to find ways to make rules work for me 🙂  Based on that, I want to pose a question to you…is Leather appropriate for Sunday dress?  I personally think that Leather can be extremely tasteful, classy and sophisticated…so truly the answer to that question for me is “if it’s done right!”

Today’s post shows an amazing skirt I found recently from Dirty Gal and I am absolutely in love with the cut and length. Because the length is not inappropriately short and the cut is not too tight, it allowed me to pull together a classy looking outfit.  For me, it is not a fabric that can make an outfit look trashy but rather the length, cut and how it is put together.  If in doubt on the length of a skirt (especially if you are wearing it for something other than a bar or nightclub) use the rule of thumb that when you kneel it doesn’t sit more than a couple of inches above your knee.  If you have shied away from wearing Leather because you feel it’s too edgy, perhaps you could try adding a lace blouse or one with ruffles to make the whole outfit more feminine.  As you can see I chose to wear a top that has a cowl neck, which softens the lines in the outfit and allows it to feel more feminine.  There are so many ways you can wear an outfit and incorporate Leather into it, for example you could try one of the following suggestions:

  1. A knee-high Leather skirt in a soft color like Beige or Cream and add a floral or lace blouse.
  2. Wear an A-line Leather skirt with ankle-strap pumps add a plain, simple T-shirt and a large necklace.
  3. Try some Leather pants with a tunic in a bright springy color.

Any one of the suggestions above is a great way to try something new or just adjust what you have been doing already.  For me, Leather is something that can be used in any season with slight adaptations and it certainly can be used for most occasions when it is done right.

The goal of today’s post is to let you know that you don’t have to follow rules but rather you can adapt those rules to fit any occasion.  I like Leather, so I find ways to make it work for no matter what I am doing.  If you feel that way about lace but you don’t feel it’s appropriate to wear for business, adapt how you are wearing it…anything is possible when you’re motivated to make it work!

Have a beautiful Sunday

Sunday Styling

“Style is a simple way of saying complicated things!”

For a perfect Sunday look, today I started with accessories and the perfect hair. What I wore was built around how I styled my hair and which accessories I wanted to wear. I chose to wear a necklace that one of my boys bought me for Christmas that has long and shorter lengths, so I was looking for a top that would allow me to show those off. This Taupe cowl neck top was the perfect pick, and I added plain Black T-shirt underneath.

Feminity was the focus of this look and I think with the subtle creases of the top, the french pleat up-do along with the fine Gold chained accessories I accomplished what I was aiming for!

Shopping for the perfect feminine outfit can sometimes be a little daunting, so why not check out StyleWe to see some amazing styles created by some great new designers!  Living in Utah where there is not the opportunity to find as many unique styles, I often find myself looking online when I want something different.  StyleWe is offering Free shipping right now, so you don’t have anything to lose, especially since there is a great Sale going on right now too!

I am a firm believer in the fact that if you want to look great on the outside you need to start with the inside which is why I stopped at Vive Juicery here in Salt Lake to grab myself a little fresh pressed juice, exactly what my body was needing.  Being happy, healthy and beautiful are all things that go hand in hand, and if you want people to see you as beautiful you first need to start seeing yourself that way.  When you see yourself as beautiful you treat yourself in such a way that takes care of everything about you…by eating healthy, balanced foods and by exercising regularly.  I also believe that a beauty regimen is important, and it’s better to start as young as possible.  I know when I was much younger I didn’t think it was as important to take care of my skin and health as I realize it is now!

Sunday’s are a great way to recuperate after a long work-week, and give your body and mind the opportunity to recharge.  I love my Sunday’s and how much more energy I feel on a Monday morning after I have had a day to relax.

Happy Sunday – I hope you feel ready for the amazing things this week can hold for you!

Casual and Shiny

“You have to fight through some bad days to earn the best days of your life!”

There is nothing better than wearing a pair of shiny disco pants, with a casual blouse for a casual Friday.  It is the perfect combination of relaxed and chic.

This type of outfit is really easy to recreate, it can be done with leggings or disco pants like these, and a loose fitting cotton blouse – the booties are a little different and tie in the two styles.  They are just a little fancier than regular booties, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t change out your look by changing out the style and color of the booties and blouse.

I always think it’s fun to come up with new style combinations, especially ones that you may not expect to see.  Disco pants or shiny leggings are typically worn with more dressy tops, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t be different – in fact, sometimes being different is the best thing to be!

What is the one piece in your wardrobe that you absolutely love and like to wear as often as possible?  It could be something that is really comfortable or something that is really feminine – whatever the reason you love it, a fun exercise is to create new ways to wear it…

I would love to see and hear some of the ideas you have – you can email me directly.  Who knows, I might even try some of your ideas myself 🙂
