Sparkles and Sequins

“I’m just trying to save the world one sequin at a time.”

Party season is upon us and now is the time to wear your most fun outfits.

I picked this outfit using sequins, gold, leopard print and patent leather.  Each piece is a contrast but yet complimentary to the others. Gold and black accentuate each other, and then by adding the leopard print buckle shoes along with the wine colored patent leather purse, it is the perfect combination.

A little black dress for parties is something that a lot of people feel comfortable wearing, my challenge is for you to pick out something that is a little more “fancy” than that.  Wear gold, silver, sequins or something that you know you will comfortable wearing.

Although I am wearing a pencil skirt with a boxed sequin detailed shirt, you can switch that out to something that is more A-line or gathered with a more fitted top if that style compliments your body type more.

This outfit didn’t cost that much to put together, however, with the gold and sequins it definitely feels and looks classy!

The Tartan Trend

“I think that people have forgotten that feeling good is as important as looking good, although a pretty dress never hurt anyone”  – Stacy London

I have always loved tartan (or plaid as it is known in the US) because it can be worn in many ways.  It can be dressed up or completely dressed down.

I wanted to show you a couple of examples of how the same piece can be worn in different ways.  I wore cute winter white booties along with a winter white jacket for a more dressy look.  Then, just for a contrast I switched the booties for a pair of tan knee high suede boots which dresses it down.

There are so many pieces out there that are tartan right now – purses, like the one I featured in an earlier post, scarves, jackets, coats and even shoes.

There is sometimes a perception that a plaid or tartan shirt is something that you wear with jeans, while most definitely this can be the case, it doesn’t always have to be so.  A plaid shirt can be worn with a nice pencil skirt and stilettos, or even with a pair of slim fitting dress pants.  You can even wear leopard print shoes with a plaid shirt and pencil skirt if you are feeling really daring…

Add a little tartan to your winter wardrobe and have fun with it!

The Perfect Red for You

“Life’s too short – Make every day a Red Lipstick Day!”

The Holidays are a perfect time to wear red lipstick.  I have found that I tend to wear more cool toned or reds that are more maroon than a typical bright red.  I found the colors that I like strictly by trial and error.  I read that a great way to test the color so that it compliments your skin tone is not by testing it on the back of your hand, but rather by putting a small amount on the tip of your finger and holding it up to your lips, or applying some to your lips and taking a selfie.

Reds are something that can look fabulous when you have the right one, or they can make the mouth look like it is screaming for attention because the red is too intense for the rest of the makeup or face.

If you are just experimenting with reds, be careful with the Matte colors – they tend to be a little more bold and stand out more.  Initially I would recommend trying a gloss finish or applying a little lip gloss over the top to tone down the whole look just a little.

If you already have a red that you like, great.  If not, here are some great ideas of cool toned reds that you can choose from.  Stay tuned later this week for ideas for warm toned reds!

Holiday Makeover

“Makeup is self confidence applied directly to the face.”

I have always thought it is fun to sit and relax while someone else makes me look far better than I could ever make myself look.

The Holidays are a great excuse to go to a local Department store and experiment with different makeups.  People working there are always eager to want to show you how great you can look in THEIR makeup.

After I posted the finished product pictures yesterday, I wanted to show you a little slideshow of how the whole experience went for me.  It was great to feel pampered and then walk out of there feeling great about myself.

Another great reason to have someone else experiment on you with makeup is that they give you tips and ideas you may not have thought of before.  For example, I have seen lots of articles and tutorial videos (believe me, I have watched them) on how to apply highlights to your face so you can accent certain areas.  The problem for me has been that I still couldn’t figure out how to do it.  I wanted to try it, so I had Jason actually demonstrate on me how it would work for ME and then he told me how I could do it for myself.

If you are interested in trying something new and are uncertain about how to do that, just go to a department store’s local cosmetics department or a store like Sephora or Ulta and have someone show you how they would do it.  Bear in mind that at a lot of these stores they are going to want to sell you the line you are trying out, so just be prepared!

Holiday Makeup

“I believe that all Women are pretty without makeup and pretty powerful with the right makeup.”  Bobbi Brown

I had a little fun today with a Holiday Makeover.

Coming up with new ideas for the Holidays and ways to look a little different and stand out is sometimes hard to do on your own. I enlisted the help of Jason Joy from Joy Salon to come up with a new look for me that I can use for Holiday events and parties. He made it simple yet classy – with a modern day twist on the classic Marilyn Monroe make up.

I love the winged cat eyes and lashes along with the fresh, not over-done eye shadow.

Finished with the pouty red lips it is a Holiday Makeup masterpiece.

The great thing about this look is that it can be recreated using whatever makeup you have already. The only essential item is the red lipstick.

The look of the cats eyes winged liner can be done using a regular kohl eyeliner pencil, but it is a little easier to work with if you have a liquid eyeliner pen – there are many different options and at Sephora they range in price from Sephora’s own brand at $14 to Guerlain at $40.

The Holidays are a great time to try a fresh new makeup look.

Stay tuned this week for pictures from the start to finish of this makeover…

Classy Style

“Elegance is not about being noticed, it is about being remembered”

I am in love with the full skirts that are popular right now.  I especially love this one because of the bright colors and flowers.

Because the skirt is a statement in itself, pairing it with a simple black top and black leather detail jacket is easy – the pearls are just icing on the cake.

If you are a Woman that is drawn towards a more conservative style, then you may tend to dress a bit safe and perhaps look a little plain. That style can become rather predictable and boring or just basic.  An outfit like this one is not too extreme but will also give you an opportunity to step outside of your comfort zone.

Try selecting pieces in a different color than a neutral – for example, if you like ballet flats see if you can try a new pair with in a bold color; or look for flats with gold metal hardware.  You can use this concept when selecting any item.  Assess your coloring and experiment with YOUR best colors – choose those colors that best compliment your hair and skin tones.

Classy style is something every woman can have, but remember to keep it individual to you.  Don’t follow the trends, but rather find the colors, styles, patterns and accessories that best compliment you and your unique style.

“You cannot climb the ladder of success dressed in the costume of failure!”

I grabbed a pair of amazing leggings that I recently purchased because they fit both criteria.  Leggings are a perfect wardrobe addition (if you pick the right pair) because they are comfortable, they can be flattering and of course don’t forget, you want to find a pair that is stylish.  I have seen lots of people walking around in leggings that are either worn out, the wrong color or fabric for someone’s body type (they show off ever bump and curve) and finally the worst thing I think I have ever seen is a pair of “flesh” colored leggings that looks like someone isn’t wearing any pants at all…definitely not the impression you want to make EVER!

The booties have a perfect heel height for lots of walking, shopping and errand running – which is essential for weekends and holidays.  As I have mentioned before, I like to wear shoes with heels a lot more than not, so when I find a pair of boots or shoes that have heels but are still comfortable, I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot!!

What is your ideal street style?  Do you look for comfort first?  Style first?  Or do you just throw on whatever is closest.  The great thing about style and fashion is that it is ever-changing so you don’t ever have to stick with what you have always done, you can change at any time.

Personal Style

Find Your Personal Style

“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as WE are!”

What is your personal style definition? There are many different types of personal style how do you identify your fashion style? We have many personal style examples here at Style Queenie!

Don’t get caught up in wearing things that you think you should wear or what you think others might like, dress for yourself, be yourself, love yourself…let that confidence and certainty in yourself shine through in everything that you do.  Which means picking out your outfit is only a small part of that, but it is something that will set the tone for your entire day.  I know for a fact, when I feel like I look amazing, I am going to perform and react a lot better than if I feel uncertain about my outfit or even my hair.

We all have bad hair days, we all have not so great outfit days, that’s why I always have a few outfits that are back-ups, which means that I can fall back on these outfits on days where I know I need to look my best.  It is something that isn’t thought about much, but it is always a great idea to have a few outfits ready to go in your closet just in case you need them!  Choose things that flatter your body, your coloring and boost your confidence.  I have talked in previous posts how certain colors can evoke certain feelings…there are always colors that you are more in tune with than others, I am drawn to Red and when I want to feel really sassy, powerful and confident, that is always the color I am drawn to first.  Do you have a color that makes you feel most confident?  If you do, make sure you have something in that color that is a standby just in case you need it.

Johnny Cash was always known for wearing all Black – during his era people thought it a little strange.  These days it is not so unusual, but still not something that everyone likes to do, and that is totally fine.  Outfits that incorporate all of the same colors, or closely similar colors are becoming more and more popular – I love the idea of wearing all Beige or all White, to me that is classy.

This is just one more way for you to put your unique personal style stamp on what you wear and how you present yourself…have fun on your personal style journey and don’t be afraid to try new things!

Fashion Inspiration

Here to Empower Your Fashion Sense

Don’t underestimate yourself by comparing yourself to others.  It’s our differences that make us unique and beautiful.”

What if I told you that you need to forget everything you already know about style and fashion inspiration.  Not because you are doing anything wrong, but because no matter how great you are at putting together outfits and fashion, it is always fun to “clean house” and go back to basics.  We are your fashion inspiration blog with fashion inspiration themes we are not here to tell you who you are but help you find your own fashion inspiration and personal style.

If you truly want to be different, unique, or stand out, the only way you can do that is by taking risks – and the most important thing to remember is that you will probably have people that don’t like what you are wearing BUT if you feel good, then you have accomplished what you set out to do.  Are you confident enough to create your own unique style.  It is easy to see what someone else is wearing and copy it or try to be just like them – but what takes real confidence is to be you…and not care what anyone else says about it.  Now that doesn’t mean you can’t try to recreate outfits that you see in magazines or see a pair of shoes and want to buy them – because magazines and blogs (just like this one) are there to give you ideas and inspire you!

I honestly believe that we were all created to be unique and that our style has the opportunity to show the world just how unique without us having to do or say anything.  As you go out in your own outfit creation, don’t forget to smile and have fun…the more happy and confident you feel, the more others will feel it too!

“Fashion inspiration should be a form of escapism not a form of imprisonment.”

Have you ever wondered which colors suit you best?  Do you sometimes hesitate to wear certain colors because you think they are too bold?

“If you want to have something you’ve never had, then you’ve got to do something you’ve never done!”

Wearing a tight skirt with a tunic or dress over the top is actually a really flattering look and appropriate for most occasions. I feel that it looks professional, especially because I didn’t have to worry about pulling down a shorter dress all day long (especially when sitting down).

Wearing short dresses in the summer can be really tempting but beware of wearing something too short for work – it not only conveys the wrong message to people you are meeting, but it also means you are going to be trying to adjust your hem all day long. Even if when you are standing and it’s not too short, it is a good idea to do the sit test and see how the dress or skirt fits you when you are sitting down.

Doing something unexpected is definitely going to be different for everyone – I tend to try things that can be unusual, but that doesn’t mean that you have to. The key is to make sure you don’t come outside your comfort zone, but you can definitely stretch it!
