Spring Shopping Style

“Each day is a page in your fashion story!”

As I am on my shopping trip in NY I wanted to post an outfit that is perfect for shopping in the spring in NY!

Perfect for comfort, changing weather and most importantly for style!  I plan on doing lots walking, shopping and of course finding amazing food to eat…

Stay tuned for some videos and I am hoping there’s not too much rain 🙂

Current Mood

“May my heart be brave, my mind be fierce and my spirit be free!”

Some of you may have seen the video that I posted today, if not, you should go to either my Facebook, Instagram or Twitter to check it out.

I have worked in Sales for 20 years and during that time I have had the opportunity to speak to large audiences, be part in TV and radio commercials, but the one thing that I STILL find uncomfortable is to see myself in video and hear my voice!  I’m not so vain that I think I am always going to look amazing, but it seems that apparently I have an expectation of myself that is not quite the reality I see.  I have overcome many challenges in my life, so this is really just a minor inconvenience rather than a challenge, nevertheless, it is one I am going to fix right now!

I am a person that once I make a decision I am really good about making it happen (or at least some degree of what I want), so realizing that something is holding me back is just the beginning of me becoming a stronger more aware and confident woman.  I have never lacked confidence in myself, however, there are still some things that I do not feel confident doing.  As a child how this manifested itself was if I wasn’t immediately amazing at something, I pretty much didn’t do it.  As you can imagine, living life that way is no way to live because you miss out on the opportunity to grow. I recognize this same trait in one of my boys and it breaks my heart seeing him not trying because when he is not as good as he thinks he should be, he doesn’t want to try!

So, what to do? Well, what I have figured out is that the only way I can help my kids is by showing them! I have to overcome feeling that I am not GREAT at something and keep doing it anyway. Once they see that I don’t let insecurity or intimidation stop me, the goal is that they will do the same.

Back to the video, I posted today what is the first video in a long stream of videos I am going to post – just a warning in case you don’t want to see me talking every day! J I am so determined that this is going to be the way I break through this and become great at it…

As I write this post I am smiling because every step I take in this direction sets me free because I am not allowing anything to hold me back!

Lightweight Jacket

When life puts you in tough situations don’t say “why me” say “Try me”!

One thing that everyone needs, no matter the climate you live in, is a light-weight jacket.  I have a small obsession with jackets (amongst other things), and I like to carry a wide selection of colors, fabrics, and styles, just in case!  There are some outfits that look better with short box-style jackets, longer jackets or leather jackets, so I like to make sure I have the right one for a given occasion.

Spring is in full bloom, and in Utah we have been experiencing very sporadic weather, warm days followed by rain and snow.  Even on the warmer days, the mornings are still cold, so even if I am headed to work or a baseball game, I have to wear a jacket.  If you are not someone that has a huge closet, that is fine, just make sure you have a more formal/business style jacket as well as one that is more casual.

The jacket I am highlighting today is one I have had for a few years, but it is kind of timeless.  It has leather accents, knit accents and lots zippers to add another dimension (you can find a similar one here).  Even if you don’t like the style of this jacket, there are so many other styles you can choose from, because at some point you are going to need one.  I have talked about this before, and it still rings true, a jacket or coat should be an extension of your outfit rather than an after-thought.  What that means is, it looks better if you try to keep it within the same style that you are wearing.

I have put together a selection of jackets that I really like and you can click on the links below if you like any and easy as 1, 2, 3 you can order it online 🙂

Channeling my Inner Pink Lady

“The best way to gain self-confidence is to do what you are afraid to do!”

As I was getting ready for this shoot I put together some outfits that I thought would work for what I wanted to feature.  As I put together the outfit I am posting today I didn’t realize that I actually liked the pieces and how they went together because they reminded me of something…yes, it is Grease the movie!

Ever have one of those moments where you think “Hmmmh, I’m not quite sure that I would wear this outfit around?” – Well, this outfit is one of those for me!  So, what did I do, I decided to strut my stuff and walk like I had all the confidence in the world.  Do I think that I put together an award winning outfit – NO!  However, what I can tell you is that it didn’t matter because it didn’t make me feel any less confident.  I like all the pieces separately, so, putting them together into an outfit and making a choice to”rock it” was an easy transition!

It doesn’t matter how many clothes you own, how much you know about style/fashion or how confident you are about yourself, there are going to be days where the outfit you put together is not going to be your favorite or you may even think that you may not actually even wear it again…but the key is to have confidence in yourself and once you do, your perspective may change!

I don’t always get it right, and I definitely like some of the outfits I wear more than others, but no matter how I feel, I always hold my head up and walk with intention and the power that I know I have!

And. just in case you want to channel your own inner Pink Lady – you can buy this bomber jacket for yourself by clicking here and going to the Stylequeenie Shop

Feels like Winter Again…

“You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one!”

The past few weeks in Utah have been pretty mild weather, but then last night the winds came in and suddenly we are back down to 30 degrees and definitely feeling the cold.

I am so ready for spring and for the warm weather to come and finally stay, but I guess since I have no control over the weather, and regardless of what I want to have happen with weather, it’s going to be whatever it is! So, with that being said, today I made the most of the weather and took the opportunity to wear a warm coat with an amazing accent scarf. Yes, the coat is simple, but with the addition of the Red and Black scarf it suddenly makes a statement and makes everything seem a little less cold!

Sometimes a warm, down jacket like this one is the only thing that really keeps out the cold, but that doesn’t mean it can’t look stylish. Adding fun accents like scarves, gloves and hats is a great way to dress up something that is simple.

This scarf was a Christmas gift from a friend, and I do believe you can never have too many scarves, and actually one of the best times to buy things like this is at the end of the season – so check out some similar picks below and you can have your own (that way you’re ready when the next unexpected snow storm hits, or when the weather suddenly changes, as we all know can happen at any time!)

Winter Days

“We are all like snowflakes:  Unique and one of a kind!”

We have had some pretty intense snowstorms here in Utah over the past few days, so what do you do when you need to go outside?  Throw on a long, warm coat, pull on a pair of Uggs or warm snow boots to make yourself as comfortable as possible.

I have to admit, I love how beautiful it is when it has snowed, the sun is shining and the roads are clear.  It is almost like a new beginning…It clears out the inversion, as well as making the bare trees look beautiful and almost magical.  As I was driving through the older neighborhood where I live that has tree-lined streets, it almost took my breath away.

Style is still something that I think is important even when you are dressing for the cold or winter months.  These Uggs are some that I bought last year, but I fell in love with them because of the Snakeskin pattern.  There are so many cool styles of winter boots right now – I have also shown a pair of Sorrel that I love, and there are so many others that are not only warm, practical AND cool looking.

The coat is big and oversized, I love the Green with the Fur hood…it is definitely one of my favorites.  If you are looking for a warm winter coat, there are so many different stores that you can find them at – even at reasonable prices.  Click on the links below for some that I like, so if you are expecting snow like we have had, you will be prepared.

Stay warm and cozy this weekend – perhaps grab your Nook and sit by a cozy fire.  But, if you do have to go out, stay warm but also be “cool”!

A Winter Coat

“When a woman feels beautiful she has the power to change the world!”

There are a few things about Winter in Utah that I know for sure…it’s always going to be really cold, there WILL be snow and you are going to need a Winter coat!

A functional down coat is awesome and definitely necessary, but if I am looking to feel and look feminine, a great wool coat (with or without a fur collar) definitely does it for me.

What do you notice about the pictures?  Do I look happy, confident, feminine, classy or sophisticated?  If you can answer yes to any of those questions then you can start to discover that what we wear and how we present ourselves can definitely determine the energy we exude.  I am feeling sexy and feminine and it definitely is evident on my face…

If you want to recreate the same look and feeling here are some simple tips:

  1.  Only dress for yourself – don’t try to be someone or something you are not!
  2. Wear clothes that compliment your body type, coloring and personality.
  3. When you have found the outfits you love, walk with serious intention.
  4. Hold your head up – men are drawn to confidence and other women respect it!

It may sound simple, but honestly if you use these tools I know you will feel different, look different and others will pay attention to you in the only ways that are important.

“Talking about our problems is our addiction.  Break the habit.  Talk about your joys!”

If you are not already signed up for the exclusive Newsletter you really need to do that…some of the jackets shown above were sent out earlier this week, along with some others that are exclusive to this post.

I have a lot of friends that don’t like to shop, so if you fall into that category, this should be something that is a no brainer for you.  I will pick certain categories, trends and styles and post links for where you can shop for yourself.  It is a great way to get recommendations, ideas and for you to explore some of my favorite shopping sites.  Stay tuned because there will be much more to come!

This week for me has started off really well, I have felt positive and confident, which I know has affected the outcome of a lot of business that I have done already this week.  I am a firm believer in that whatever we focus on, that is what we get.  That can be a positive outcome or sometimes, if we are focused on things we don’t want – those things can truly come to fruition.  Here’s a challenge for you (who couldn’t use some better results in their life?)  As you find yourself thinking that something is too hard, you don’t have the energy or you are afraid of something happening so you focus on thinking about it, get up, put on your favorite music, dance for about 10 minutes and then see if you still feel the same way!  My guess, and I am not just saying this because I have actually done it, you will either have forgotten your negative thoughts, feel a new found focus or will somehow manage to problem solve the “big” challenge you had.

You may or may not believe in things like this – but let me ask you this “what do you have to lose?”  – are you already so successful, happy and confident that it isn’t worth even trying?

I don’t know about you but I am going to sing and dance my butt off because it’s much better than failing or quitting.

Have a great rest of your week…

“Why fit in when you were born to stand out!”

In one of my recent Newsletters I posted some pictures and links to some great chokers…so, today I wanted to show off one of mine!  There are so many different colors, metals and styles that are available, so you can find one that will work for just about any outfit.

I paired mine with a simple form fitting dress that has a high neck, which works for this style of choker.  There are some styles that you need to wear a low or V-neck shirt or top to show off your necklace, but mine today isn’t one of those!

I love how you can decide how much of this necklace you have as a choker and how much you can have hang.  It is very versatile and flattering, and I think it makes this dress a lot more fun.

If you are picking out a choker make sure that you buy either an adjustable one, or one that leaves room for it to not keep popping open.  Because we are so unique as individuals our neck sizes are so different so make sure you don’t pick one out that is either so uncomfortable that you feel like you are literally being choked all day, or one that keeps falling off because it pops open all the time.

The ankle booties and Black leather jacket make the outfit a little more edgy and not so conservative, which is something we all need every once in a while!

If you don’t subscribe to my Newsletter, now is the time to do that so you don’t miss on great new style ideas and where to buy them.

Leather & Lace

“If you have genuine courage wear your costume every day of the year, not just on Halloween.”

Happy Halloween…

I’m afraid although I love decorating my home, baking and getting the kids ready, I really don’t love dressing up myself…so today, I just wore something that made me feel good.  At my kid’s Halloween parade I spoke to one of my friends and she said “you did dress up, you’re a hot mom” – haha!  So I guess if I look at it that way… 🙂

This skirt is For Sale in My Shop at Stylequeenie and I love it because even though it’s Faux Leather, I like that more because it means the skirt is stretchy and really comfortable.  I also love the color because you don’t see it in Leather very often, and Green is a color that I have been loving quite a lot lately so it makes it fun.  The blouse is one that I have had for a year or so, and I love the lace at the bottom.  The great thing about this outfit is that there are so many options for shoe styles that make the outfit look completely different.  I opted for some cute little Winter White booties that I bought last Holiday season from Nine West.

If you have seen me post this green skirt before, I wanted to show you a different way of wearing it.  I threw on my older Black leather jacket this morning because it was a little chillier than it has been, and I love the look with or without the jacket.

In my Newsletter a couple of weeks ago I posted some links for where to buy some great Leather jackets, and if you didn’t see that, sign up for the Newsletter and let me know so I can send it to you.  Today’s Newsletter featured some great business pieces from JC Penney as well as where to find some amazing Bodysuits.   You really don’t want to miss these exclusive Newsletters.

Have a safe and fun Halloween night, and don’t go crazy on the candy!
