I have talked about adding color to your life and style, but I wanted to let you know that it doesn’t mean that you need to neglect the staple colors like Black and White. This post is dedicated to those who don’t like to venture too far outside their comfort zone with colors.
If you don’t want to change things too much, or would prefer to do it in a more gradual way, you need to read on…
Adding patterns in the colors you are comfortable with is a great way to transition into something a little more adventurous, or it may even be where your style exploration stops – which is totally fine too! I want you to know that because I post something that talks about a color or style that isn’t for you, it doesn’t mean that you have to try it. What it means is that YOU need to decide what works for YOU!
I know I have talked about this before, but honestly the most important thing you need to possess is the confidence to try new things but also the confidence to accept that some things are not for you! Patterns are great, but may not be your thing, colors are great but not all of them will work for you, styles come in many shapes and sizes, and the key is to find what works for you and your body type. My saying has always been “just because it comes in your size, doesn’t mean you should wear it.” What I mean is that some things are size, age and style appropriate. There are certainly some styles that I steer away from – because they are not appropriate to my age. As we say in England I don’t want to go out looking like “Mutton dressed as lamb!”
Have the confidence to try out new things and then pay attention to how they make you feel and how others react to what you are wearing. One caution is to try new things when you are not meeting new people or have an important meeting because you are going to be more self-conscious and it is going to be harder to you to gauge how the outfit worked out for you!
Finally, and most importantly, have fun and don’t take yourself too seriously. If you find something that doesn’t make you feel how you want it to, then have the confidence to laugh at yourself and move on!
