Pack Outfits Not Options

When I was traveling I used to pull a bunch of clothes out of my closet and just throw them in the largest suitcase possible. The theory was that I didn’t really know what I would want to wear while I was gone, so I would take plenty of options. What I found was that while I had a lot of pieces they didn’t necessarily work together and I would end up still having days where I wasn’t happy with what I had to wear.

I recently have adopted a new approach. I use only hand luggage but I choose “outfits” before I pack. I pull out clothes I know work together, pick an outfit for every day (and night) and pack those. This way the only choice I have to make is which day do I wear that outfit. I don’t over-pack, I still have clothes that I like and I don’t have to wait at the baggage carousel for a suitcase.

Don’t Skimp On The Shoes

Shoes have been one of my biggest weaknesses when travelling, but I have still managed to pack enough pairs so that I don’t have to wear the same pairs all the time.

Traveling is such a fun time, I have found that this takes the stress out of it so that I can just enjoy my trip.

Be Prepared To Shop

If I am planning an exclusive shopping trip, I pack myself an extra bag that I can fold flat and put in my hand luggage, so that when I have all my purchases I can load those into the extra bag and check that bag on my return. This way I don’t have to worry about how much I can buy – which is always a good thing!
